It’s no secret that Sealy® has been a leader in the mattress industry for more than 140 years – but when you take a step back and compare mattress brands, what really sets us apart?

Here at Sealy®, we believe you deserve more than “good enough,” which is why we’re proud to say all our mattresses are tested (and retested) beyond industry standards to make sure you purchase a mattress with best-in-class quality. The result? You sleep better knowing your mattress is backed by long-lasting durability.

But how exactly do we achieve this? While “Sealy® mattress tester” may sound like a dream job, it’s a lot more intense than it sounds! For us, testing a mattress is not just about creating the right feel – our beds must also withstand the test of time.

Our mattresses go through six intensive testing phases using state-of-the-art robotics to make sure they will hold up and help you enjoy great sleep, night after night (after night). Let’s meet the bots:

Robot Test

The robot test (better known as Squat Bot) is our patented robot test that simulates a person repeatedly getting in and out of bed to make sure no body impressions are left behind. This is the most realistic test in the industry and only used by Sealy®.

Cornell Test

Next is the Cornell test – also known as Bounce Bot. This test simulates a 77-kilogram person jumping on the bed to make sure the mattress maintains its shape. Our Cornell test performs 50% more cycles than is required. Talk about going above and beyond!

Rollator Test

After the Cornell test, we begin the Rollator test. Here we use a 108-kilogram weight that repeatedly rolls across the surface to simulate a 10-year usage span. We also run 50% more cycles for this test compared to the industry standard.

Load-Deflection Test

Up next, we give our mattresses a load-deflection test — the last of our weight tests. This tests the durability of the mattress by measuring how the foam changes over the life of the bed.

Adjustable Base Test

If you want to level up your comfort game, pairing your mattress with an adjustable base is a great option! We perform an adjustable base test on every mattress – during this test, we bend the mattress 10,000 times to make sure it works perfectly with an adjustable base.

Shipping & Handling Test

We perform our shipping and handling test to guarantee your mattress arrives safely and in perfect ready-to-sleep condition every time. The test simulates a 800-Kilometer ride to confirm your mattress will travel from our plant to your home without sustaining any damage.
